Now that all the craziness of Ollie's injury and the Thanksgiving holiday has died down, I took the time to skim through my blog and realized that I never discussed our Kalahari stay. Oversight! We had a great time and I feel like I owe it to the great staff at Kalahari to sing their praises to whomever will listen. Brief update before I do so, though- Ollie is doing quite well. He does, indeed, have an actual hole in his head. Pepper punched a hole through his nasal cavity and into his mouth. It was pretty gruesome but now he's back to being his usual cranky self.
Ok, so back to Kalahari. In short, GO THERE! In case you're not familiar with Kalahari, it's a small chain of resort hotels with indoor waterparks, spas, etc. As of now, there are two locations- including Sandusky, where we were- and a third is in the works. I was able to book a fantastic deal because we went during the week and also during the off season, so it was ridiculously affordable. We had a huge room with a whirlpool, champagne and chocolate strawberries, and even a birthday cake and balloons for Mike!
The really great part was the water park. I couldn't believe how many slides they fit into the space! There were body rides and tube rides and a wave pool and even a surfing school! Plus, best of all, an indoor/outdoor jacuzzi with swim-up bar. Yes, folks, you are reading correctly. They have a gigantic hot tub with an attached swim-up bar. You buy yourself a yummy frozen beverage, duck under a little doorway, and ta-da, you're outside reveling in the hot water while the cold Ohio wind swirls around you. Just awesome.
So overall, I'd suggest that if you have a chance to visit Kalahari, you should take it. Tons of fun!
