Yes, this is another wedding-related post. I tried to think of something else about which to write, but the unfortunate thing about this time of year (end of the semester) is that very little besides work actually happens. It was this or talk about my dissertation. I do find my dissertation pretty interesting, but I didn't think that anyone who reads this would, soooo....
Wedding music! Ceremony music, to be exact. Mike was super sweet and volunteered to take over the task of finding ceremony musicians. Well, actually, he pretty much insisted rather than volunteered, and I was more than happy to hand over the reins. He's such a sweetheart sometimes!
I had originally been of the mindset that we should just have our DJ play for the ceremony. Mike, though, really had his heart set on actual musicians. I know, I didn't expect a guy to care about music, but I'm glad he did. Because he cared, we ended up finding a booking a fantastic string quartet who, wait for it, will play Queen for us!
Now, before you scoff at the idea of classical musicians playing Queen for a wedding, click on the link below. It's a recording of a string quartet playing You're My Best Friend by Queen. This is the song we plan to have for our recessional because it's "our song" and when played on strings, it's just plain pretty and fun!
Vitamin String Quartet playing Queen
I'm also considering walking down to the aisle to a classical rendition of All You Need is Love by the Beatles. I wouldn't really call myself a Beatles fan, but I do like that song, especially on strings. Here's the same group playing that song: All You Need is Love
And if you feel like checking out a music genre that's very rarely associated with classical musical instruments, check out this song Metallica- Nothing Else Matters and the many other fantastic metal covers by Apocolyptica. Again, I'm not usually a fan of this type of music, but it's gorgeous on strings. This group is coming to Flint in March and I'm strongly considering going.
